Deal insights
BIC Soft Feel Black Retractable Ballpoint Pens, Fine Point, 12-Count is a Good Deal, offering a familiar BIC oil-based ballpoint ink, a fine 0.8 mm tip, and a common 12-pack at a price slightly below recent norms. The feature set matches typical budget expectations—quantity-focused packaging and disposable cartridges—so the savings relative to the recent average is the main advantage.
Here is why
When selecting ballpoint pens, focus on ink performance, writing tip size, pack size, and refillability. Here is how this product performs:
1.
Ink Performance (oil-based ink; quick-drying) : Matches budget benchmarks where oil-based ballpoint ink and basic smear-resistant claims are typical. For the price band this is standard and reliable rather than specialty; no premium ink chemistry is advertised.
2.
Writing Tip Size (0.8 mm; fine point) : A 0.8 mm tip is slightly finer than the budget cluster around 1.0 mm and aligns with common fine options in the mid-to-budget transition. This tip size is typical for buyers wanting neater lines without requiring mid-range precision tips.
3.
Pack Size (12 pens) : A 12-count fits the budget typical range and is a common multipack configuration. The pack favors value buyers rather than single premium gifting or refill-focused purchases.
4.
Refillability & Refill Type (nonrefillable) : Disposable design is typical for budget pens; mid-range and premium benchmarks more often advertise refill compatibility. Buyers who prioritize refillable pens should consider mid-range options with named refills.
Deal price at $6.99: sits within the upper part of the budget band for ballpoint pens. It is priced below its recent 90-day average of about $7.73, which modestly improves the value proposition for a mainstream brand.
Overall, this Good Deal suits shoppers who want an affordable everyday pen pack with reliable black ballpoint ink and a finer-than-average tip for neat writing. Double-check return or warranty terms if buying larger quantities, and confirm refillability expectations since these are disposable pens rather than refillable models.
